Why do people like to rant so much?

I was just wondering why people rant so much againt things they do not like but yet they do nothing to try to change it.

Some examples:

Complaining about the president. So why not write a letter or sign a petition to try to get him impeached than send than set it to congress?

Complaining about gas prices. So drive less, odds are most of the people complaing about gas prices are the ones who will drive to the end of the block or let their car warm up for 20 minutes before driving it in the winter.

People have a voice and can make a difference. Why do they choose to just sit back and do nothing but rant? Why do people like to rant so much?
The first reason is probably just plain ignorance. Many of us don't know how we can improve a situation or what to do constructively for our voices to be heard? The second reason reason is probably a sense of powerlessness. They feel that their contribution or opinion is really insignificant, and that there is no realistic chance they have of getting their desired outcome. The third reason is that many of these problems require changing other peoples attitudes and opinions. And as we all know it's not an exact science as to how to change the attitudes and minds of human beings. The fourth and final reason is that many feel that they are in the minority. Even if they find some like-minded people who are willing to be involved in activism, is it enough people to garner attention and change things. Why do people like to rant so much?
People are like pressure cookers; if they don't blow off steam on a regular basis they will ultimately blow up. Yuck what a mess that would be.
A lot of people are lazy, and ranting is just a lazy mans way of protesting. They feel like they are doing something, but all they are really doing is making noise.

The people complaining about the Prez. should get off their butts and vote!!!! If you didn't vote you have no room to complain. You had a voice and did not use it.

Gas prices? Maybe buying that Hummer wasn't such a great idea?

People are silly sometimes and don't make the best decisions, but you are right ranting is kinda dumb.

Especially when everyone has the potential to make a difference.
Basically, it's human nature to complain about what we dislike and it's also human nature that only a small percentage will actually work to do anything to change the things that the larger group actually want to be different. That's what activism is all about just like not all of us are cut out to be the athletes, or the doctors, or the politicians. We each do the thing that we are able to do, but we ALL have opions we want to share.
jealousy, like the attention or just in general like to complain a lot
