Why do people own pets especially dogs. Is it because their owners rant particularly clean themselves?

Why would someone let a dog lick and drool all over their face after its been outside sniffing the ground. putting its nose and mouth into old leftover chip wrappers pizza boxes and other peoples waste products on the street. If you saw someone you were realy hot for eating things he picked up of the street and rubbing his nose into other dogs backsides would you let him kiss you i think not. But dog owners will let their dog do this freely. Ive never been in a dog owners home that didnt smell of their dog. i can understand if its a propper working dog thats fine but why would anyone else need one after all they cant comunicate with you. You cant get them to run to the shop for you so why?Why do people own pets especially dogs. Is it because their owners rant particularly clean themselves?
Hey, me and the dog don't smell that bad. He's a pacifist, I'll ****** bite ya, mate...Why do people own pets especially dogs. Is it because their owners rant particularly clean themselves?
i take it you hate animals then
i have to agree with you there, i wouldnt say the owners were dirty but dogs are disgusting animals i hate them. and why do homeless people insist on having some mangy mutt on a rope when they cant afford to look after themselves. i'm sick of dog excrement. i'm sick of kids being mauled but the dog owners always say the kid must have provoked the dog in the first place. but what can you say, theres no point because they wont listen.
Even though you can't have a conversation with them, they are nice to have as pets. pet owners have dogs and other animals because they love them. Dogs are very loyal, cuddly, fun to play with, loving etc. It is possible to communicate with animals. They don't speak English but you can tell from there body language. I do agree that allowing a dog to lick your face is gross and I don't allow my Aunt and Uncles dog to lick mine. I do enjoy taking her for walks though and she often comes and cuddles up when I'm watching the TV. I don't own a dog but do have a cat and she is lovely. She is very affectionate, loving, she sleeps on my bed at night, she enjoys walks down the garden, she does very funny stuff. I can tell from her body language when she wants feeding, if she is enjoying being fussed etc. They are nice company to and they are so fluffy and cute lol. Also I shower everyday.
The easiest way of answering this one is everyone is different. I could pontificate all day about why I love pets and why I wouldn't be without my dogs - smells, licks and non working purposes all included! However I wouldn't necessarily expect you to understand as pets clearly aren't for you. If I started to talk about companionship, exercise and non complicated relationships your eyes would probably glaze over with boredom! My point is simple I wouldn't be without my dogs as they are an important part of my household and life. However I am not going to judge someone who doesn't choose to have or understand the need to have pets.
I have never understood the pet owning thing before as I also think they smell and cause a great responsibility i.e. you are not able to travel without making arrangements for their care. However, I have just moved to a big old house that creaks in the night and I am never able to sleep when my partner is away. Last night my neighbour lent me her dog and I slept very peacefully in the knowledge that the dog would bark its head off if someone approached me so now I see the point. I still wouldn't let it lick my mouth though....
i keep mine so i can set them on people called spanner
We have a big dog, and 2 young children. Our house is spottless and does not smell of dog, i work very hard to clean the house daily to make sure there are no smells! Our dog goes to work daily with my husband and does not rub her nose in anything, she does not roll in cat or dog poo like some other dogs, she is very cleaned and groomed regularily. And lastly, my dog does not lick my face!

Our dog is seperated from the young children at all times, we have a big house and gates on every room, the dog does not go into the lounge or the childrens playroom and she does not go upstairs. There is no chance our dog would attack our children, even if she could get to them... I dont even know why i am defending myself to this pointless question!!
People who own pets, especially dogs, are kind hearted and love animals. We love dogs because they offer us unconditional love and acceptance. Dogs are much, much more forgiving than people.

And by the way, dogs are VERY useful if properly trained. They can be trained to help the handicapped do their shopping, they can be taught to differentiate between objects such as ';keys,'; ';remote'; etc. and bring those objects on command or with a gesture. Companion dogs can pick up and return dropped pens and other items, turn on lights, open and close doors, ring for the lift...a thousand things. They also help some people socialise, as other animal-lovers will stop and say hello...and start a conversation and possibly a friendship.

Dogs have also long been used to guide the blind, work in rescue operations such as the World Trade Centre disaster, earthquakes, etc. to find people who are trapped. Dogs can sniff out mould in buildings, and detect when a person is about to have a siezure, giving them enough warning to at least lie down before they fall.

You obviously don't like animals; that's OK, no one's forcing you to get a pet. You seem more concerned about personal cleanliness than emotions and feelings. That's cool. But those of us who have had dogs and cats know why. Yes, they can be a bit messy (as the human, it's up to the owner to keep them clean), but their companionship and affection is worth a lot in today's isolating world.
Hello, I have a dog and I can honestly say there is no way he is ever going to lick my face and yes dogs can smell but so do many people and there families do not throw them out on the street, I am guessing you have never had a dog so there is little or no point in trying to justify why people have them as pets.

Some peoples dogs are there life line if it was not for there dog then they would not be able to be independent from other people, such as guide dogs and home help dogs.
dogs are always there for you they give you the best of welcomes when you come home better than anyone can ever give you ! they comfort you when you cry they cheerup your walk and can be quite funny! if they lick you it shows they care. my dog barks whenever any stranger goes near me or when someone hite me they ll go crazy. they keep you safe and are the best thing that can happen to you.

you wont know the feelings of a pet to an owner untill you have one!!
